Washington, D.C. — Maggie’s List, a federal political action committee (PAC) dedicated to electing fiscally conservative women to federal office and statewide executive office, is proud to announce the endorsement of Winsome Sears for Virginia’s Lieutenant Governor.

Winsome is running to preserve the Republican Party principles of maintaining our values of human life and dignity, equal opportunity, protecting our Second Amendment rights, less taxes, encouraging entrepreneurship, and educational choice. Winsome understands the importance of expanding the Republican Party of Virginia to include new voters, such as building relationships with the Hispanic community and bringing conservative African Americans into the Republican Party.

“As the Virginia Chair of Maggie’s List, I am proud to nominate and endorse Winsome Sears for Lieutenant Governor.  As the first African-American female on a state-wide ticket in Virginia, and as a Veteran and small business owner, Winsome’s the type of unique candidate that we need to win back Virginia and that represents the vision of Maggie’s List for female candidates across this nation” states Maggie’s List Virginia Chair Tina Ramirez.

Winsome was elected to a majority Black legislative district, an achievement that no other Republican has accomplished in Virginia since 1865. She consequently also became the first (and still only) Black Republican woman elected to the Virginia House, the first female veteran, and the first legal immigrant woman.

Winsome is a mother, wife and is proud to have served in the United States Marines. She was also a hard-charging Vice President of the Virginia State Board of Education and received presidential appointments to the US Census Bureau (where she co-chaired the African American Committee) and the Advisory Committee on Women Veterans to the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.

I understand that America is the land of opportunity, which I learned firsthand at the age of nine when I immigrated from Jamaica.
